SECTION 1.
Sir J. Jordan to Sir Edward Grey.-(Received March 19.)
(No. 65.) (Telegraphic.) P.
CHINESE immigration to Canada.
Peking, March 19, 1909.
Mr. Mackenzie King is making satisfactory progress in his negotiations with the Wai-wu Pu, and the Chinese Minister in London is being consulted by his Government
as to the desirability of restricting the number of Chinese emigrants to Canada in the manner desired by the authorities of that country.
As Mr. Mackenzie King is unable to make a protracted stay in Peking, it would conduce to an early settlement of the question if the wishes of the Canadian Govern- ment could be explained to Lord Li with a view to his replying to the Wai-wu Pu as soon as possible.
